Now that winter has begun, it is accompanied by a less welcome season, cold and flu season.  As our athletes prepare for upcoming games and meets it is likely that they will come down with an illness, and the question will be “when is it safe to still play while sick?”  Many times it is safe to practice and play through an illness but it is important to be able to recognize more serious symptoms and when to seek medical attention. The shoulder is designed for motion to maximize the ability to place the hand in a seemingly endless array of positions in relation to the body.  The “cost” however for this mobility is stability. The shoulder is the most unstable joint in the body.
