Abby Krzywiecki of Farmington Hills Mercy was far and away the winner of the online vote for the 2016 Total Softball/State Champs! Softball Player of the Year award.
And after much deliberation Krzywiecki has been named the winner of the second annual Softball Player of the Year.
The other three finalists were Nikki Bauer of Unionville-Sebewaing Area, Meaghan Beaubien of Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central and Abby Skvarce of Clarkston. Three of the final four are seniors. Beaubien is a junior.
Krzywiecki played first base this season and she also pitched.
Krzywiecki was one of the state’s top players as a junior when she batted .547 with 12 homers. Last fall she signed with South Alabama.
“My expectations (for Krzywiecki) were high this season,” Mercy coach Alec Lesko said. “But she’s exceeded them. She’s made every kid on this team feel special and I have 18 players. She’s off the charts with her career numbers.”
Mercy (43-2) won the school’s first softball title on Saturday by defeating Macomb Dakota, 4-0, at Michigan State.
Mercy reached the state semifinals in 2015 and the Marlins won two of the last three Catholic League titles.
This season Krzywiecki is batted .558 (82-147) with 15 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs (state record), 58 runs scored and 94 RBI. She’s 12-1 on the mound with a 1.66 ERA. She’s struck out 81 in 92 2/3 innings.
Her 48 career home runs is good for third on the all-
