Detroit King gets first win of the season over Detroit Osborn |
After two close losses by an average margin of 4.5 points, Detroit King got it's first win of the 2012 season, beating Detroit Osborn 62-6. The last time King started 0-2, it was 2008 and they had just won the 2007 Division-2 state title the previous year.
"It was very important not to go 0-3, because that could have ruined our city and state playoff hopes", said senior QB Da'Vaun Williams. Williams and the first team offense rarely saw the field, because the special teams unit and defense shined. Junior RB Avonte Maddox retuned two punt returns for touchdowns. The first one was for 55-yards with 7:20 left in the 1st quarter and Maddox broguth another home for a 55-yard touchdown on the very next change of possession.
"My team helped me out a lot. They made a lot of key blocks, and left me with only one person to beat", said Maddox after the game. King special teams also forced two safties on blocked punts, and the defense opened the game with a fumble recovery for touchdown. Osborn could never get into an offensive rhythm, and it's only score of the game was a 53-yard fumble recovery for touchdown late in the 3rd quarter. By then the score was already 37-6 Detroit King and they didn't let up despite the running clock. They added 4 more touchdowns and cruised to a 62-6 victory.Tweet
