Welcome to the 2023 Michigan High School Football Anvil Award delivered by Hungry Howie's!

The 2023 Michigan High School Football Anvil Award process:

To vote, you will need to provide your EMAIL ADDRESS. Select the candidate that you believe is having the best year in High School Football and cast your vote!! Your email address will need to be VERIFIED. You will receive an email (please check spam or junk folder). Once you click on the verification link, you will be added to the contest system permanently. If you want to vote more than once, please refresh your browser. Enter in your EMAIL ADDRESS again to cast another vote! Voting is limited to 100 votes every 7 days.  THE ONLINE VOTE ACCOUNTS FOR 20% OF THE CRITERIA THAT WILL HELP DETERMINE THE 4 SEMI-FINALISTS!

By voting in the contest, you agree to allow State Champs! Network and its affiliates to update you via email about news, sports events and special offers.
The criteria that will be used to select the Anvil Award:

30% - Performance Throughout Season
20% - Level of Competition
20% - Online Vote
15% - Big Game Performance
10% - Team Success
5% - Highly Recruited Prospect.

Throughout the season, we will be updating player statistics and adding new candidates into the contest as their actual play and performance merits, with a goal of keeping the ten best players on the board. In mid-November we will close online voting and select our final four candidates. The final award selection and presentation will take place in December with all of our friends at Hungry Howies!

Brandon Davis-Swain (West Bloomfield 6-4, 250 Sr. DE) -- Committed to Colorado, Davis-Swain is the state's top pass rush threat, collecting 30 sacks over the past two seasons. This is his second year as an Anvil Award candidate.

Kari Jackson (West Bloomfield 6-2, 210 Sr. LB) -- Committed to Penn State, Jackson recorded 100 tackles and 3 sacks last season in his first year back in the MHSAA after a year down at IMG Academy in Florida and is the best linebacker in the OAA. Jackson spent a week on the Anvil Award candidate list last fall.

Jeremiah Beasley (Belleville 6-1, 210 Sr. LB) -- Committed to Michigan, Beasley was the most-coveted linebacker recruit in the state on the heels of a 102-tackle, 6-sack campaign in 2022 where he led the defense for Belleville's repeat D1 state-title squad. He's a consensus 4-star prospect and is considered a Top 30 player at his position on a national level.

Andrew Dennis (Mt. Pleasant 6-5, 285 Sr. OL) -- Committed to Michigan State, Dennis is a beast in the trenches and shows NFL-level upside. This will be only his third year playing organized football.

Brady Pretzlaff (Gaylord 6-3, 225 Sr. LB) -- Committed to Minnesota, Pretzlaff is a physical specimen of a student athlete and menace sideline to sideline. Last year as a junior, he posted 115 tackles and 5 sacks.

Idrys Cotton (Plymouth 6-5, 285 Sr. OL) -- Committed to Northwestern, Cotton is a road grader on the line with great footwork and technique.

Avery Gach (Birmingham Groves 6-5, 285) -- The top lineman prospect in the state's Class of 2025, Gach earned offers from Alabama, Georgia, USC, Florida State, Miami (OH) and Oklahoma during the offseason. He's rumored to be deciding between Michigan and Michigan State right now.

Callen Campbell (Sault St. Marie 6-5, 250 Sr. DE) -- Committed to Northwestern, Campbell is the best player in the UP and corralled himself 12 sacks last season.

Carter Herriman (Davison 6-2, 210 Sr. LB) -- Committed to Miami (OH), Herriman is the best linebacker and top recruit in the Flint area and a force of nature sideline to sideline tracking ball carriers and quarterbacks. His Davison squad is 4-0. Last season as a junior, he collected 76 tackles and 5 sacks for a 9-2 Cardinals club.

Gabe VanSickle (Coopersville 6-5, 285 Sr. OL) -- Committed to Northwestern, VanSickle plays like a man amongst boys up front, imposing his will on opponents every snap.
