2023 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic Matchups Released
DETROIT (March 21, 2023) – The Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) announced today the matchups for the 18th Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic to take place Aug. 24-26, 2023, at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University in Detroit.
The 2023 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic will kick-off the high school football campaign as the premier season-opening prep football showcase in Michigan. An exciting slate of games will highlight the event over three days, including teams from multiple divisions and powerhouse conferences including the state of Ohio.
“The Detroit Sports Commission is proud to once again kick off the high school football season in Michigan with an exciting lineup of games at a great setting in the heart of Midtown Detroit,” said Marty Dobek, Detroit Sports Commission Deputy Director. “The 2023 event will feature a tremendous collection of high school football teams from Michigan and Ohio and also include school bands and cheerleaders for fans to experience at this annual signature event in the city of Detroit.”
The Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic will open at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, with a matchup between Walled Lake Western and Waterford Mott followed by Chippewa Valley vs. West Bloomfield at 7 p.m. On Friday, Aug. 25, a to-be-announced game at 4 p.m. will precede the Belleville and River Rouge matchup in the nightcap at 7 p.m. On the final day on Saturday, Aug. 26, Detroit Cass Tech will open against Southfield A&T at 1 p.m., with Detroit King and St. Xavier (Cincinnati) in the event finale at 4 p.m.
For the seventh year, Detroit-based Xenith returns as the Classic’s title sponsor, reaffirming its commitment to elevate the event experience for players, coaches, and fans. Tickets will be available at a later date online at detroitsports.org, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting each school. One ticket will grant admission to all games on that particular day.
