Farmington Hills – Rochester Adams shook off a slow start and controlled the final three quarters to defeat Farmington Hills Harrison 21-9 in an Oakland Activities Association White Division game at Harrison.

It was Adams’ first victory over Harrison since 2009. Harrison had won six straight in the series.

Adams (4-1) is 3-1 in the division, a game behind Birmingham Groves (5-0, 4-0). The teams play each other in two weeks.

Harrison (3-2) is also 3-1 in the division.

Adams quarterback fumbled a snap from center but recovered effectively ending a drive in the first quarter. Two plays later Adams snapped the ball over the punter’s head and Harrison took over on the Adams’ 10-yard line. Two plays later quarterback Noah Hendricks threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Ovie Oghoufo and the Hawks led 7-0 on the first play of the second quarter.

Adams then took over on both sides. The Highlanders tied the score at 7-7 on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Wood to Stevie Roncelli with 6:38 left in the half. The score came on a fourth-and-9.

Adams drove 80 yards on the first possession of the second half and took a 14-7 lead on Chase Kareta’s 5-yard touchdown run.

Adams converted a third-and-13 on the scoring drive when Wood passed 21 yards to Mark Patritto. Later in the drive, on a fourth-and-4, Wood passed 17 yards to Vincent Gray. On the next play Kareta scored.

Wood scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to complete a 50-yard dirve and the scoring for Adams with 11:30 left.

Harrison didn’t gain a first down in the second half until there was 7:07 left in the game. On that drive Harrison faced a fourth-and-goal at the 4-yard line but Adams stopped Hendricks’ run a yard short of the end zone.
