Basketball Recruiting Notebook — Dancler Dances Off To DI Upstart Le Moyne

Southport senior guard A.J. Dancler signed his NIL with Le Moyne College in New York. Le Moyne is moving into the Division I ranks of the NCAA this upcoming season and will compete out of the Northeast Conference.

Last winter, Dancler (6-0), a four-year starter and shake-&-bake in the backcourt, averaged 19 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds per game for a Southport squad that captured a league title in 2023. He was an All-Stater and First Team All-Marion County selection.

Awards of note:

Indianapolis Cathedral’s Jaron Tibbs was named City Athlete of the Year. Tibbs, a 6-4 wide receiver on the football field and a shooting guard on the basketball floor, leaves the Circle City for West Lafayette having won state crowns in both football and hoops. As a senior, he pumped in 16 points per outing on the basketball court. On the football field in 2022, he caught 13 touchdowns.

Lawrence Central’s Josh Mickens was named Marion County Athlete of the Year. Mickens (6-3, 230) is signed to play football at Ohio State as a rush end. He racked up 55 tackles and 7 sacks last fall. Playing off the wing on the hardwood, he averaged 10 points and 8 boards per night.
