April Brings Showers Of Praise For State’s Junior Gridders: Class of 2018 Rundown

By: Scott Burnstein, April 12, 2017, 12:00 pm
Here’s a half-dozen football players from the state’s Class of 2018 to watch out for on the college recruiting trail this spring:

Nick Carey (Novi Detroit Catholic Central OL) – This physically-imposing and fierce competitor at the point of attack recently scooped his first power-conference offer from Virginia of the ACC.

Vincent Gray (Rochester Hills Adams CB) – Active, agile and instinctive cover corner who just got his first offer from the west coast with a Washington State bid. The Pac-12 Cougars offer is his second overall power conference bid behind Purdue.

Davion Williams (Belleville CB) – Possibly the hottest prospect in the state right now in his class, this first-year pigskinner is just starting to scratch the surface with his potential on the gridiron. Indiana, Iowa and Iowa State have all offered in recent weeks. Expect the power-conference bids to keep flooding in.

Tyrone Sampson (Detroit East English Village OL) – Beast Mode 24/7 in the trenches, a brute who loves to bang pads and a position MVP at Nike’s The Opening regional in Ohio over the weekend.

Jaeveyon Morton (Detroit King CB) – Another position MVP in The Opening’s Buckeye State regional, the definition of a ball hawk.

Jerrod Vines (Detroit Central WR) – Crafty playmaker out of the slot, wheels, want-to and wily route-running ability
