Oak Park football standout Marquan McCall found his home at the next level over the weekend, while Detroit Cass Tech gridiron star Kalon Gervin started looking for a new one.

McCall, a 4-star offensive lineman, committed to Kentucky. Gervin, also a 4-star prospect and the most-coveted cornerback in the state’s crop of juniors, de-committed from Notre Dame. They are two of the Top 5 players in the state’s Class of 2018.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound McCall will be entering his fourth year starting in the trenches at Oak Park this fall. He had a total 17 scholarship offers, including power-conference bids from UK, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Maryland, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State, Illinois, Iowa State, TCU, Tennessee and Wisconsin. McCall’s Oak Park club went 7-4 in 2016 and fell to eventual Division 2 state champion Detroit King in the district finals.

Gervin (5-foot-10, 175 pounds) had pledged to become a member of the Fighting Irish family back in February and has told reporters that he’s eager to visit Michigan State and Oklahoma now that his recruiting is reopened. Last November, Gervin helped lead Cass Tech to a Division 1 state crown at Ford Field. – he had 15 pass breakups in the 2016 campaign.
