Battle Creek Lakeview disqualified from boys soccer postseason for playing too many games

The MHSAA announced Wednesday afternoon that Battle Creek Lakeview’s boys soccer team had been disqualified from further competition in the Division 1 state tournament, having exceeded the number of regular-season games allowed by rule.
By rule, no team may play more than 18 regular-season contests. Lakeview is credited with a 13-5-2 record, without counting forfeit losses to Mattawan (Oct. 8) and Battle Creek Central (Oct. 10, in district play).
Lakeview was the top-seeded team in the Portage Central district bracket.
The Spartans beat Battle Creek Central, 7-1 last Thursday, in the first round of play in the district action, and was set to play Kalamazoo Loy Norrix in the district semifinals on Wednesday.

Loy Norrix gets a bye into the finals — scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19 — opposite the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between Portage Central and Portage Northern. Battle Creek Central gets credit for a 1-0 forfeit win in round one, but does not advance.
