Big 12 Bound – Oak Park Field General Finds Home At College Level

Like the song from a few years back said, Oak Park sophomore football star Dwan Mathis is ready to move his body like a cyclone – an Iowa State Cyclone to be exact. Mathis, one of the state’s top quarterbacks in the Class of 2019, committed to Iowa State of the Big 12 over the weekend. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound dual-threat signal caller is the Cyclones first recruit in his class. He led Oak Park into the playoffs last fall in his first year as a starter at the prep level. His Knights went 7-4, losing to eventual repeat Division 2 state champion Detroit King in the district finals.
This kid is a total FREAK on the gridiron. I foresee an upside in Ames for him that could reach monumental proportions. Get ready Big 12, in a couple years you’re getting yourself quite the diaper dandy!!!
Besides Iowa State, Mathis held scholarship offers from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron and Central Michigan. The Cyclones scored a pair of the state’s best prospects in the Class of 2017 too in Orchard Lake St. Mary’s cornerback Richie Bowens and Walled Lake Western offensive lineman Rob Hudson. Bowens enrolled at Iowa State last month.
