Harper Woods Chandler Park senior two-sport star Jalen Martin is ready to rocket to the next level. Martin, a standout on the football field and basketball floor, committed to play on the gridiron in college earlier this week at the University of Toledo. Martin is a sturdily-built 6-foot-3, 220-pound wide receiver (think a prep version of Anquin Boldin), who has eclipsed the 1,000 yard, 10-touchdown mark in the stat sheet in each of the past two seasons. He’s a genuine deep threat on every snap and is cash money in the red zone.

The Toledo Rockets are nationally-ranked this fall. Following a 0-2 start, Martin and his HWCP Eagles have reeled off six straight wins to qualify for the playoffs. Last year, the Eagles went 8-3, losing in a district championship game.

As a hoopster, Martin is an explosive presence on the hardwood, too, just like he is with the pigskin in his hands. Playing on the wing, he’s equally fearless and crafty. He possesses a cottony-soft touch from deep and can slash to the rack with the best around. In terms of finishing around the rim, whether in the half-court set or on the fast break, he’s elite, first-rate all the way.
