Defending The Falcons’ Nest At All Costs – Groves Gridders’ ‘D’ In High Gear

Burney loved what he saw from the Birmingham Groves football team on the defensive side of the ball last week. The Falcons are 5-0, in first place in the OAA White and coming off two straight shutouts – Week 4’s 45-0 blanking of North Farmington and Friday’s 36-0 roughhousing of arch-rival Birmingham Seaholm.
Alright, let’s ROLL CALL it for the GRRRRRRRRRRREAT Groves ‘D’
Nate Wagner (MLB) & Ryan Flaherty (S) – The undisputed heart & soul and co-quarterbacks of the Falcons’ dynamic defensive unit, intelligence by the truckload, natural leaders, definition of big hitters, tenacious in pursuit of ball carriers, tireless work ethic….Any questions?
Maurice Kelly & Chaise Ford (ILB-OLB) – Formidable tandem sideline-to-sideline, opportunistic, fast on their feet, instinctive, agile, aggressive, always on the fly
Griffen Best (DL) – Maybe the BEST two-way lineman in the whole league……YEAH, I SAID IT!!
Anthony Galdi & Jaleel Anderson (DL) – Twin terrors in the trenches, lunch pail guys, glue guys, gutty performers aka a pair of SIR-GRIND-A-LOT SPECIALS!!
Drew Sheckell (DE) – VERY good “hybrid” tight end on offense, VERY underrated pass rusher on ‘D’ (total insanity when let loose on the basketball court in the wintertime)
Collin Heard (CB) – PURE playmaker, electricity personified on both sides of the ball, think Charles Woodson in his prime at Michigan in the National Championship campaign in the 90s or Jabril Peppers in the A-Squared today
Dylan Sutton (CB) – Crafty and consistent corner with sticky cover skills
