Doing It At The Highest Level – Local Pro-Angle Update
A few former prepsters from Metro Detroit are making an impact at the NFL level lately. Let’s take a looksee at who from the area high school scene is doing the most destruction in the pros recently.
Jeremy Langford (Westland John Glenn) – This slippery, slick-footed rookie tailback broke out on national tv last week for his Chicago Bears last week with a 140-yard, game-winning-td effort in a comeback victory over San Diego. As a senior at John Glenn, he posted almost 2,000 yards (1,932) on the ground and scored 24 touchdowns, before going on to star at Michigan State, including on the 2013 Rose Bowl-title team.
Devin Funchess (FH Harrison) – A big-play tight end as a prep star with TEAM HERRINGTON and in college donning the UofM Maize and Blue, Funchess, a rookie with Fantasy Football upside, is starting to show signs of brilliance in the SHOW. Last week, as his undefeated Carolina Panthers rallied for a home win over the Green Bay Packers, the FUNCHISE bagged 3 catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, the first of his pro career. Back in the day as a Harrison Hawk, he was a man amongst boys, helping lead the program to its’ MHSAA-record 13th state crown and a national-ranking as a senior in 2011.
Zach Line (Oxford) – Part-time starter in the backfield at fullback for the 6-2 Minnesota Vikings in his third year in the League. He scored short-yardage rushing touchdowns in each of the club’s first two games of the season. Two of his three career trips across the goal line have come against his hometown Detroit Lions. At Oxford, he ran for 1,750 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior in the late-2000s. He continued barreling over the comp at SMU, tying the all-time td record and placing second all time in the program’s rushing department behind NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson
