Everhart of Cardinal Mooney signs with Saginaw Valley State for basketball

The pride of Marine City Cardinal Mooney boys basketball this past season, Daniel Everhart, has signed with Saginaw Valley State. The 6-1 point guard was the best small-school player in the Catholic League this past season, averaging 22 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds per game. He was a three-time all-state selection and will depart Cardinal Mooney as the program’s all-time leading scorer.

A four-year starter, Everhart, as a sophomore, led his club to the Class D quarterfinals. He’s an ace shooter, adept distributor and has a dogged drive to the rack. His mother, Sue, Everhart, is the esteemed former Cardinal Mooney girls hoops coach who built her program into one of the best in the state in Class D over two dozen years at the helm (more than 350 wins). She stepped down to watch her son tear up the court for her brother and the boys squad.

The Cardinal Mooney boys program is headed by Mike McAndrews, Daniel’s uncle. McAndrews led Cardinal Mooney on a magical run into the Class D state championship game in 2010. Daniel’s younger brother, Kevin, was a fab frosh on the team in 2018.

Saginaw Valley State finished 12-17 this past winter.
