By: Scott Burnstein, February 26, 2016, 8:37 pm

FIVE FOR FIGHTING – Burney’s Top 5 Favorite Bob Lantzy State Finals Era Utica Eisenhower Football Players (Lantzy who coached at Ike for over 40 years, leading his Eagles into the D1 state championship games four times – 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 –, returned to the Metro Detroit coaching scene this week, coming out of a 5-year retirement to head the program at Stoney Creek)

1. John DiGiorgio – Intelligent, athletic middle linebacker who made it to the SHOW aka the NFL (played with the Buffalo Bills, tallying over 100 tackles during his three-year career) from Saginaw Valley State, the anchor and emotional leader of the ’99 and ’00 units at IKE that went to the Big Dance

2. Lance Long – Dynamic, reliable deep threat that had a five-year career in the NFL catching the rock with several different teams, tore up Macomb County secondaries like it was his job, which it obviously became not-that-LONG-thereafter, suited up for Mississippi State of the SEC in college

3. Joe DiGiorgio – Baby bro DiGiorgio was just as much as a BALLER-SHOT CALLER as his big bro at the prep level, Joe D was a star quarterback and defensive back for IKE, guiding the Eagles to a state-championship game appearance in ’01 minus his older sibling by passing for close to 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns

4. Jorel Petree – “Shake&Bake Style” field general that took IKE to the state finals in ’03, got the job done with guts, touch and a high-gear arm in the pocket, played in college across the border at the University of Windsor

5. Nick Petrovski – Power and precision personified on the defensive side of the pigskin, charted a dozen tackles in ’99 state championship game at the old Silverdome
