Two of the top juniors in the state made reservations for the next level in the last few days:
Dearborn Divine Child 4-star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson (6-foot-6, 275 pounds) committed to Michigan and Detroit King tailback Eric (Red) McArn (6-0, 215 pounds) committed to Central Michigan
Hutchinson is the No. 1 defensive line prospect in the state’s Class of 2018. His dad Chris played at Michigan in the early 1990s and was a team captain. He collected 70 tackles and 11 sacks on a DC squad that advanced to the Division 3 final four in the fall.
McArn transferred to two-time defending Division 2 state-champion King from Southfield A&T earlier in this month. Injured for most of his junior campaign, he rushed for 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Spartans Corner
Michigan State gave out offers to Detroit Cass Tech sophomore running back Jaren Mangham, Belleville sophomore wide receiver Julian Barnett and Milan junior offensive lineman Mike Furtney over the weekend. Furtney got a Purdue offer in the last week as well. Gibraltar Carlson ATH Jaylan Franklin also recently picked up an offer from the Green and White.
Maize and Blue Alley
Michigan put in a bid for Traverse City West junior offensive lineman Ryan Hayes, who also saw recent scholarship offers come in from Kentucky and TCU and hosted River Rouge junior tight end Lee Payton over the weekend.
Lining things up in the trenches
Muskegon junior offensive lineman Antwan (A.J.) Reed scooped offers from Georgia, Minnesota & Kentucky in the past week. Kentucky offered Detroit East English Village junior offensive lineman Tyrone Sampson too.
Sampson and 4-star big nasties Marquan McCall (Oak Park) and Devontae Dobbs (Belleville) visited Kentucky’s Lexington campus over the weekend. When Dobbs returned home Sunday, he was welcomed back to the Mitten with a PAC-12 offer from Oregon.
