From East Lansing To Ann Arbor – UofM Scoops State’s No. 1 Hoopster In EL’s Johns
East Lansing boys basketball star Brandon Johns will leave his green-and-white tinted hometown for a little more blue in his life. As in Maize and Blue.
Johns, a 6-foot-8 consensus 4-star prospect and the No. 1 player in the incoming senior class according to multiple scouting services, committed to the University of Michigan Thursday afternoon, shunning Michigan State located just down the road from where he lives.
This is the first time in more than a decade that the Wolverines have acquired the services of the state’s top player.
Last season as a junior, Johns averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per game. Over the past two years, East Lansing has gone 47-2.
Besides UofM and MSU, Johns had scholarship offers from Texas, Pittsburgh and Iowa too, as well as others. ESPN slots him at No. 40 overall in the nation’s Class of 2018.
His commitment to Maize&Blue Nation gives the Wolverines its’ second premier prospect in the class’ in-state crop, following in the footsteps of Detroit East English Village point guard David Dejulius who committed during the 2017 campaign.
