Gaining Steam Down The Stretch – A&T Hoopsters Coming Into Their Own

By: Scott Burnstein, February 23, 2017, 10:00 pm
Southfield A&T’s boys basketball club is catching fire at the right time. Following some early-season injury woes, TEAM AVERY is scorching the opposition on a regular basis lately.

The suddenly world-beater Warriors have won five straight, three in a row out of the always rough-and-tumble OAA Red, and six of their last seven overall. On Wednesday, they finally pushed past the .500 mark with a 62-60 defeat of West Bloomfield at home. Sitting at 9-8 and less than a week removed from knocking of No. 1 in the state Clarkston on the road, A&T could be a thorn in defending Class A state-champion Detroit U-D Jesuit’s side come districts at Detroit Renaissance next month.

Alright, let’s ROLL CALL this HARDWOOD WARRIOR STYLE!!!!

Michael Flowers (G) – Western Michigan-signee and certified lethal weapon on the perimeter, can Steph Curry the comp at will, limitless range, underrated handles and playmaking ability, crafty going to the rack, fierce finisher at the tin

Reme Torbert (G) – Sweet-tooth release and form from deep, silky smooth driving the lane, deadly pull-up from midrange, steady and as consistent as they come out of the backcourt

Brandon Rucker (C) – The most undervalued big guy in the whole OAA……Yeah, I Said it!!!, long, lanky, athletic and active near the rim, MAD HOPS, dunks the ball like the basket personally offended him

Corey Whitted (G) – Smart, heady pacesetter in the backcourt alongside Flowers and Torbert

Cam McEvans (G) – This rookie is one tough cookie……’Nuff Said!!!

George Osborne (G/F) – The quintessential glue guy, doing all the little things on both ends of the floor

Tyler Nelson (G/F) – Gritty, high-motor and always ready in a pinch to do the unglamorous dirty work every successful squad needs done
