East Lansing – The general consensus throughout the season was that the Class A tournament was wide open. Even the teams not ranked were thought to have had a shot at the title.

Saturday’s finalists support this premise.

Flushing (23-3) and East Kentwood (25-1) will make their first appearance in a final at the Breslin Center at noon.

Flushing upended defending champion Warren Cousino, 52-36, in one semifinal as the Raiders executed their defense to a T.

East Kentwood held on to defeat Southfield for the Arts and Technology, 55-51.

East Kentwood ended the regular ranked No. 7. Flushing is unranked. Pick: Flushing by 3.

Class B

Detroit Country Day (25-1) vs. Ypsilanti Arbor Prep (27-0), 6 p.m.: We get what many had predicted; No. 1 vs. No. 2. Arbor Prep has been No. 1 since day one. Country Day has 11 state titles. Could be one of the best games of the season in any class. Pick: Arbor Prep by 2.

Class C

Detroit Edison (19-5) vs. Pewamo-Westphalia (24-2), 4 p.m.: Pewamo-Westphalia has had but one close game in the tournament and that came in a region semifinal against Grand Rapids Covenant Christian (34-31). Edison, an independent, played a host of Class A and Class B schools during the season to prepare for games just like this. Pick: Edison by 4.

Class D

Pittsford (27-0) vs. Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary (18-9), 10 a.m.: No team has come within 12 points of Pittsford, the defending champions. Lutheran Seminary’s last four games have been decided by five, eight, eight and five points. Lutheran Seminary has not lost to a Class D team this season. Pick: Pittsford by 9.

Quarterfinal record: 11-5

Semifinal record: 7-1
