Going To The Mat – Shouse, Jr. Joins State’s Cage Crop

Mattawan got a big gift this summer in the arrival of out-of-state hoops transfer Dexter Shouse, Jr., a Division I college-bound guard. The Wildcats already have a DI-level center in 6-foot-10 Nolan Foster.
Shouse, Jr. recently committed to Coastal Carolina. He played at Lawrence North in Indianapolis the last three seasons under legendary coach Jack Keefer. Lawrence North is a traditional state power in cage crazy Indiana and Keefer posted his 700th career victory back in January.
As a junior, Shouse, Jr. averaged 15 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds per game. Besides Coastal Carolina, he held offers from Memphis and DePaul. His dad, Dexter, Sr., who grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, played in the NBA in the 1980s with the Philadelphia 76ers and had a long overseas career on the hardwood.
Coastal Carolina competes in the Sun Belt Conference and is coached by former Clemson and Auburn sideline general Cliff Ellis. The last time, Coastal Carolina qualified for the NCAA Tournament was in 2015.
The 6-foot-4 Shouse, Jr. should take the Kalamazoo area by storm this winter, as him and Foster form a mighty nice inside-outside combo for Class A Mattawan. Last season, the Wildcats went 15-7.
