Howell’s Carney earns MaxPreps/NFCA National Player of the Week honors for regional performance

Howell junior pitcher Molly Carney named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week for her performance last week, posting an ERA of 0.00 in three wins for the No. 3 Highlanders, who won a second straight regional title.

Carney struck out 16 in a two-hitter in the 4-0 regional semifinal win over St. Joesph, and nine in a five-hit shutout of Gull Lake in the regional championship game.
For the season, Carney is 26-2 with an ERA of 0.68, 11 shutouts, two no-hitters and one perfect game, striking out 253 of the 566 batters faced, and walking just 35. Opposing batters have hit just .136.
The Highlanders continue their season in quarterfinals on Tuesday, facing Canton.
