Jack Bush throws for 264 yards and two TDs, Chelsea downs Allen Park 35-12 in Division 3
Allen Park – Four times before Chelsea played in a regional final and four times the Bulldogs lost. In 2006 Fowlerville nipped Chelsea 28-25.
Chelsea tried for a fourth time to reach the semifinals on Friday and this time the Bulldogs made good.
And it wasn’t close.
Chelsea led 14-0 at halftime, added two more touchdowns in the third quarter and blew past Allen Park 35-12 in a Division 3 region final before a near-capacity crowd at Allen Park.
Chelsea (11-1) will play Coldwater (12-0), which will also make its first semifinal appearance, on Nov. 21 at a site to be officially announced on Monday.
Quarterback Jack Bush was outstanding. The son of coach Brad Bush, Bush was 16-of-20 for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown.
Chelsea scored touchdowns on two of its first three possessions to take a 14-0 lead.
The Bulldogs recovered an onside kick at their 47 and went 10 plays to score. Jack Bush, the son of coach Brad Bush, was 5-for-5 on the drive for 41 yards. His 7-yard pass to Noah van Reesema set up Jacob Samodi’s 2-yard touchdown run.
Allen Park’s Austin Dietz recovered a fumble at the Chelsea 29 and the Jaguars moved the ball to the 5-yard line and faced a fourth-and-3. Quarterback Antonio Mangiapane was stopped for a 1-yard gain and the Bulldogs took over with 10:37 left in the half.
It took Chelsea just six plays to score and Jacob Grob ran 67 yard for a touchdown through the middle of the Allen Park line.
The Bulldogs missed an opportunity to take a 17-0 lead at halftime but a 25-yard field try sailed left. Van Reesema’s fine over-the shoulder catch for a 50-yard gain gave the Bulldogs that chance to score.
Allen Park (10-2) gained 145 yards in the first half, Mangiapane had 58 yards on 10 carries, but the Jaguars couldn’t come up with a big play when they needed it. There were dropped passes, penalties and, of course, the missed opportunity inside Chelsea’s 10.
Bush started well despite a strong cross breeze in this Downriver community. He was 11-of-13 for 150 yards. Bailey Edwards had six receptions for 51 yards. Edwards had a one reception in the second half for 39 yards.
Tight end Jacob Scheese had four receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown, from 3 yards out, gave Chelsea a 35-0 lead.
Nate Berrelez spoiled the shutout with a 2-yard touchdown run with 7:12 left.
