Like Father, Like Son: Postseason Style
Newly-appointed Detroit Lions interim GM Sheldon White was spotted attending his son, Cody White’s high school football playoff game Saturday afternoon, as the younger White and his Walled Lake Warriors romped into the D2 final four with a 35-14 trouncing of Midland Dow in the regionals.
Cody White, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound big-play wide receiver and defensive back, is one of the fastest-rising prep recruit in the Class of 2017, and showed why on Saturday, making papa proud by torching Dow for a pair of touchdowns, one on both sides of the ball – he had a td grab and a Pick-6. On the recruiting scene, he’s on fire. Since late August alone, he’s scooped Division I “power-conference” college scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Wake Forest, Northwestern, Boston College, PITT and Indiana, not to mention the multiple MAC offers he also holds.
Sheldon White, hired to replace Martin Mayhew as Lions’ GM this past week, was in the house for the first half of the regional championship throwdown, watching his baby boy GET BUSY in the Western walloping, but then had to jet for the second half to catch the Lions’ charter flight to Green Bay for their tilt with the Packers Sunday. In his 19th year working in the Lions’ franchise front office, the elder White is a retired NFL cornerback, having suited up for the Lions, NY Giants and Cincinnati Bengals in a six-year career in the league. He played on the organization’s 1991 squad that won a division crown and made the NFC Championship Game.
