Southfield A&T senior hoopster Deja Church had a change of heart last week. Church, one of the best girls basketball players in the state, switched her college commitment from the University of Minnesota to the University of Michigan.
Playing at Metro Detroit-power Southfield-Lathrup the past three years, she’ll headline the newly-merged A&T squad this winter. Some peg her an early-frontrunner in the race for Miss Basketball. There’s good reason.
Last season, Church lit up the stat sheet for 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game out of the backcourt. Her versatility – she can play either guard spot –, dogged work ethic and leadership skill set her apart from the pack.
