Memories Of Mr. Z – Gone Too Soon, Remembering Zurlon

I was shocked and saddened by the death of former Sterling Heights Parkway Christian superstar athlete Zurlon Tipton this week – Tipton (Central Michigan), a running back for the Indianapolis Colts the past two years, accidentally shot himself in the stomach at a car dealership in Roseville Tuesday morning. As both a prep football player and hoopster, Tipton was dominant, a complete freak of nature. I was blown away by his talent and raw potential.
Here are some of his Parkway highlights:
His 12 points, 8 boards at the Breslin Center in the Eagles appearance in the 2007 Class D boys basketball final four (a 66-52 state semifinal loss to Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian)
He’s tenth all-time in the MHSAA record book for points scored on the football field (571 pts.)
He rushed for a robust 5, 115 yards in four total varsity seasons (2005-08)
His 94 career touchdowns is 8th best in state history, his 76 scoring trots on the ground is 7th best in the MHSAA annals.
He scored 38 touchdowns in his junior season on the gridiron (tied for tenth all-time in a single campaign
He threw down slam dunks on the hardwood that were simply monstrosities…..I think some of the rims in EAGLELAND are still rattling!!
