MIDWEST RECRUITING: Carlson’s versatile Ian Stewart picks Michigan State

Gibraltar Carlson’s Mr. Do-Everything on the gridiron, Ian Stewart kicked off his junior prom with announcing where he was going to play his college football. As he arrived at the prom Saturday night, the versatile 6-foot-3 split end prospect posted on his social media accounts that he was committing to Michigan State.

Last month, Stewart narrowed his list of 30 scholarship offers down to an “elite 8” of MSU, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, West Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky and Kansas State. He had taken recent visits to Kentucky and Penn State.

For his Gibraltar Carlson squad, Stewart lines up at quarterback, wide receiver, linebacker and safety. His two brothers, big bro Brandon and little bro Bryce, were the club’s starting running backs last fall. The Carlson Marauders have gone 17-4 over the past two seasons. In 2018, they went 8-2. Ian has started on both sides of the ball since he was a freshman.

Stewart is the fourth commit for MSU’s 2020 recruiting class, the third coming from the in-state ranks. East Kentwood offensive lineman Dallas Fincher and Dearborn tight end Tommy Guajardo committed to the Spartans back in February and March, respectively.
