MIDWEST RECRUITING: Edison’s Brian Taylor hoops his way to Chi-Town, providing great value for UIC

From Motown to the Windy City with love from the PSL.
Detroit Edison departing boys basketball star Brian Taylor inked with University of Illinois-Chicago over the weekend. The 6-foot-6.5 Taylor is a heady wing who has a style of game best described as spunky and efficient. In other words, he does maximum damage with minimal touches.
The past two seasons, Taylor has been one of the most undervalued playmakers in the state, killing the opposition softly to barely any fanfare. He lets his lunch pail and tidy stat line do his talking for him on the hardwood and if you were paying attention, it spoke volumes.
As a junior, Taylor helped lead Edison to a Class C state title. He captained the Pioneers back to the final four in 2019, pouring in 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds per outing.
He also recently won the 400-meter dash at the Division 3 state track and field meet, competing for Edison’s fledgling team.
UIC competes out of the Horizon League and is coached by Steve McClain, previously at Wyoming and an assistant in the Big Ten for five years on the bench at Indiana University. The UIC Flames are coming off a .500 campaign in 2019 where they posted a 16-16 record and finished fifth in league play.
