MIDWEST RECRUITING: Mattawan’s Nolan Foster picks Ohio Bobcats

By: Scott Burnstein, April 28, 2019, 10:30 am

The big fella wants to be a Bobcat.

Mattawan senior boys basketball star Nolan Foster signed with Ohio University over the weekend, giving the Bobcats one of the state’s post players for their incoming recruiting class. The 6-foot-10 Foster led Mattawan to an undefeated regular season and a district title in 2019, displaying a newfound diversity to his skill set. In other words, he took his game to the perimeter and showed an ability to stretch defenses with his shooting. Add that to an already booming arsenal on the blocks and you had one of the West side’s most complete playmakers.

Foster logged 16 points and 10 boards per night during his magical senior campaign. He also held offers from Central Michigan, Western Michigan, James Madison, Coastal Carolina and Holy Cross. The Ohio Bobcats just hired former player Jeff Boals as their new head coach. Boals suited up for Ohio in the 1990s and started his coaching career there as an assistant.

With Foster off the board, the Mitten still has one Division I college big man for the taking in Detroit U-D Jesuit 6-foot-11 center Jalen Thomas. Last month, Thomas ended his prep career in the state finals and vacated his intent to attend UMass. Recruiting websites predict Thomas will eventually ink with Xavier.
