MIDWEST RECRUITING: Mississippi State snares Michigan’s top girls hoops star, DEPSA’s Rickea Jackson
Bringing a bulldog to her college signing ceremony was the obvious tip-off.
Mississippi State had just snared the best girls hoops prospect in the Mitten.
Miss Basketball favorite Rikea Jackson, the spry and long 6-foot-2 wing forward from Detroit Edison considered by many to be a Top 10 player in the country, inked with Mississippi State Friday afternoon in a ceremony at Edison featuring not just her pen, but her new pet bulldog too. Jackson has led Edison to back-to-back Class C state championships and chose the Bulldogs over South Carolina and Rutgers.
Last year as a junior, Jackson poured in 22 points per game to go along with her 11 rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in the stat sheet every night. She’s equally vicious attacking the rim and stroking jumpers — think female version of KD. In the offseason, she suits up for Team USA’s development squad.
Mississippi State competes out of the SEC and is a national power. The Bulldogs have been to two straight NCAA Final Fours, finishing runner-up in both 2017 and 2018. Vic Schaffer, the Bulldogs head coach, was voted National Coach of the Year last season.
