MIDWEST RECRUITING: OLSM’s Bowman bound for Wisconsin, UDJ’s Friday to Ivy League

Going next level
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s junior guard Lorne Bowman committed to Wisconsin and Detroit U-D Jesuit senior guard Daniel Friday committed to Brown, while River Rouge senior power forward Danny Few signed with Lake Superior State. Bowman (6-foot-2) and Friday (6-foot-3) are the best the Catholic League has to offer out of the backcourt. Long, athletic and sporting superior footwork, Few (6-foot-7) anchors the River Rouge post attack.
Last year, the sweet-stroking Bowman tickled the twine for 22 points per night. He chose Wisconsin over Iowa and Nebraska.
Friday is a versatile playmaker and known for beating opponents with his intelligence and court savvy as much as he does with his natural athleticism and skill. Few and his River Rouge squad have been to back-to-back Class B final fours.
Making the move to the MAC
Warren Lincoln recently hired former Detroit Pershing sideline general Wydell Henry as its new coach. Henry spent six years on the bench at Pershing, winning a pair of PSL crowns (2013, 2014) and mentoring a number of Division I and II college recruits in his stint with the Doughboys. His 2013 club was ranked No. 1 in the state for a good portion of the regular season. Lincoln plays in the MAC Gold Division.
Raising his recruiting stock
Maple City Glen Lake junior wing Reece Hazelton picked up an offer from defending Division II National Champion Ferris State. It was his first DII bid. The rangy 6-foot-7 and hot-shooting Hazelton helped lead Glen Lake to a spot in the Class C state finals in 2018. He pumped in 19 points in the semifinals.
