MIDWEST RECRUITING: Pair of state’s best snipers, Blackwell and Jergens, commit in-state at OU and CMU

Two of the state’s best shooters on the basketball court found homes at the Division I college level over the weekend and both are staying in Michigan:
East Kentwood’s Alona Blackwell committed to Oakland University and Marcellus Howardsville Christian’s Dylan Jergens committed to Central Michigan.
Blackwell connected on 45 percent of her 3-point bombs last year. Her backcourt mate Mo Barnes committed to South Carolina State earlier this fall.
As sophomores, Blackwell and Barnes helped lead East Kentwood into the Class A state finals.
Jergens was a first-team all-state selection out of Class D in 2018 and took his Howardsville Christian club on a trip to the quarterfinals. He fired in 32 points per game as a junior and hit close to 50 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.
