MIDWEST RECRUITING: South Bend St. Joseph hooper JR Konieczny is sizzling up the charts

Hooping his way up the recruiting charts, South Bend St. Joseph’s Doug (JR) Konieczny is killing it this summer on the hardwood. His soft shooting touch and tenacious work ethic baseline-to-baseline are on full display for all to see.
Well, mainly scouts with scholarships to dole out.
The hard-nosed, lanky 6-foot-7 junior wing has collected offers from Iowa, Notre Dame, Butler, Creighton, Miami (OH), Bradley and Valpo in the offseason and earned a three-star ranking. Indiana and Purdue are starting to sniff around too. He visited IU for an “unofficial” in June.
One big reason for the surge in his recruiting stock is the dedication he’s exhibited in diversifying his game. A natural gunner with solid handles, Konieczny (pronounced Kah-Nez-Nee) has significantly upped the ante on his ability to get to the rack, draw contact and finish at the rim.
As a sophomore, he pumped in 24 points per game. Konieczny’s efficiency is a key to his value. Last winter, he shot nearly 50 percent from the field.
