MIDWEST RECRUITING: West Washington’s Caleb Murphy wastes no time, picks Indiana football

The offer was gold, the commitment was lightning fast.
West Washington defensive end Caleb Murphy committed to Indiana University on the spot while camping in Bloomington and getting an offer from Coach Allen this past week. This kid is a real diamond in the rough, the kind of ferocious competitor who has an endless motor and flawless technique.
The 6-foot-6, 250-pound edge rusher recorded 85 tackles and five sacks last season as a junior. He’s a natural athlete and the definite of coachable. He joins offensive linemen Luke Wiginton (Ft. Wayne Bishop Dwenger) and Cam Knight (Noblesville) and linebacker Ty Wise (Carmel) as in-state grabs for the Hoosiers in the early stages of building their Class of 2020 recruiting crop.
Other quick notes:
Culver Acadamies defensive end-linebacker hybrid Deontae Craig visited IU last weekend. Craig (6-foot-5, 250 pounds) is considered the best pass rush prospect in state’s Class of 2020. He also starts in the frontcourt on Culver’s state-power basketball squad, helping the program make back-to-back appearances in the 3A state finals, winning a title in 2018.
Ben Davis’ Daylan Carnell (slotback-defensive back) was on campus with Craig in Bloomington last weekend for a visit. Carnell can be slick and slippery with the rock on offense and a ball hawk in the secondary on ‘D.’ He’s poised for a GINORMOUS junior campaign this fall.
Brebeuf Jesuit’s juggernaut defensive line prospect Joe Strickland just nabbed his first Power-5 offer from IU. Strickland (6-foot-5, 260 pounds) camped at Notre Dame last weekend and word is the Fighting Irish will most likely be offering soon.
