Number of automatic qualifiers is up to 165 after Week 8 action: Who’s in, who’s out, who’s close
Week 8’s action saw 55 new teams punch their ticket with a sixth win (or fifth win, if they only had eight games scheduled), pushing the total of qualified playoff teams to 165 with one week to go in the regular season. To get to the 256 teams needed for the playoff field, the remaining 91 squads will have to come either from the 62 teams that currently sit on the precipice at 5-3 (or 4-4 in the case of Tawas) earning the last win needed for automatic qualifying, or filled out from those of the 78 teams that currently sit at 4-4 making it in at 5-4.
