Less than a week after de-committing from Purdue, Walled Lake Western offensive lineman Rob Hudson has decided to head to Ames, Iowa, committing to Iowa State. The 6-foot-9, 300-pound tackle held things down in the trenches the past two years for Western, helping his Warriors advance to repeat D2 final fours and an appearance in the 2016 state finals at Ford Field.

 

The big boys are getting in on the recruitment of West Bloomfield tailback Davion Johnson. I’m talking the Big Ten. Johnson, already committed to Miami (OH), is receiving heavy interest from Iowa and Minnesota, according to scouting guru, Allen Trieu (Scout.com). Iowa offered a scholarship this week. He’ll visit the Hawkeyes campus soon. Whoever lands this kid’s services is landing a steal. The speedy, sturdily-built and incredibly durable Johnson is a true workhorse – he’ll churn out yardage on the ground up the middle or around the edge and can catch the ball in the flat or across the middle to augment a team’s passing game.

 

Detroit Cass Tech quarterback Aaron Jackson, the expected starter for the 2017 campaign who has seen spot duty the last two seasons, received his first college scholarship this week from Central Michigan.

 

Birmingham Brother Rice sophomore running back Marcellus Gaines has enrolled at Cass Tech. Gaines started at Rice last fall on a 7-4 Warriors squad. Word is Cass has also added transfers from Southfield A&T in ball carrier Lew Nichols & defensive end Andre Carter, both Division I college prospects

 

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s All-American senior linebacker Josh “THE BOSS” Ross was recently named USA Today’s prep MVP for the state of Michigan. ‘Boss’ Ross is committed to the University of Michigan. A four-year starter as the quarterback of OLSM’s stellar defensive unit, he was the heart and soul of three straight D3 state crowns (2014-16).
