Secretly Tearing It Up Out West – Smith Can Dazzle Despite Lack Of Notoriety

Delano Smith might be the best boys basketball player you’ve never heard of in Metro Detroit. The Walled Lake Western senior combo guard is smooth as silk on the hardwood and pouring in 30 points a game for the 4-0 Warriors. He had 32 earlier this week in a win over Waterford Mott in his club’s league opener out of the KLAA North.

The 6-foot-2 Smith is special because he’s good adept at creating his own shot off the dribble. His first step is cheetah fast and his touch around the rim, from midrange and beyond the arc is cotton soft. In terms of character and coachability, he’s top rate too. Oh, and unlike a lot of elite offensive talents he’s not afraid to defend and bring aggressive pressure due to his first-class motor.

But shockingly, nobody is recruiting this guy. Man, would he be a steal for a small D1 school or any D2 competing in the GLIAC. Come on fellas, come and get it. There’s a grade-A BALLER on the loose and he brings tremendous value to any Class of 2017 recruiting crop.

The ‘D’ is for DYNAMIC, DETERMINED AND DARN NASTY in the open floor and the half-court set. Don’t be shocked to see this kid KILLING it at the next level wherever he lands in the future.
