Sixteen Michigan natives selected in Phase I of 2020 United States Hockey League Draft
A total of 16 Michigan natives were selected in Phase I of the United States Hockey League draft on Monday, led by Lansing native and Honeybaked player Christian Kocsis, who was drafted by the Lincoln Stars with the eighth pick of the second round, 23rd overall.
The UHSL is a Tier I junior hockey league, the top league sanctioned by USA Hockey, and has 16 teams across the Midwest.
Phase I is 10 rounds in which USHL teams can select futures-aged players, ones who would play under-17 in the following season — or born in 2004 for the purposes of this year’s draft. Phase II is Tuesday, starting at 2 p.m. EST, and is open to all junior hockey-aged players whose rights are not currently held by another UHSL team.
