South Bend Sizzle – Cass Tech Grid Star Sets College Plans For ND

The Golden Domers just got a gold-plated prospect.
Detroit Cass Tech four-star football-recruit Kalon Gervin committed to Notre Dame following a visit to campus over the weekend. Gervin (6-foot-0, 180 pounds) is rated by some as the No. 1 player in the state’s junior class. He’s being projected as a cornerback at the college level when he arrives in South Bend in the fall of 2018.
The floodgates on Gervin’s recruiting opened last year. The multi-skilled playmaker was deciding between a slew of scholarship offers – a whopping 34 to be specific, spanning several Power 5 conferences. Michigan, Michigan State, Colorado, Arkansas, Cal, Florida, Georgia Tech, Louisville, LSU, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Pitt, Tennessee, South Florida, West Virginia and Wisconsin all extended bids.
Cass Tech is the defending Division 1 state champions in the state of Michigan and has appeared in the past two state finals at Ford Field. Notre Dame has found recent success plucking players for its defense from the Mitten.
Last year, the state sent three high-ranked prospects to South Bend in Daelin Hayes (Ann Arbor Skyline), Ade Ogundeji (Walled Lake Central) and Khalid Kareem (Farmington Hills Harrison). Ogundeji and Kareem are rush ends, Hayes is a linebacker. Hayes started as a true freshman. Joining Gervin in the Fighting Irish’ Class of 2018 is Ovie Oghoufo, an outside linebacker from Farmington Hills Harrison.
