State Champs girls district basketball preview – Haslett vs. Williamston and Mona Shores-Reeths-Puffer are top games

Here’s a look at district play in the girls basketball tournament that begins Monday at 32 sites in each of the four classes.
We will chose one top game in each class as the best, and we will predict the 32 winners.

Muskegon Mona Shores (17-3) vs. Muskegon Reeths-Puffer (16-4) at Mona Shores, Monday, 7: These teams tied for the O-K Black Division title but Reeths-Puffer won both meetings by narrow margins (37-36, 49-45). Cameryia Williams is Reeths-Puffer’s lone senior and will be counted on to lead her team in this district opener. Pick: Mona Shores by 2.

Haslett (15-5) vs. Williamston (19-1) at Fowlerville, Monday, 7:30: Haslett started the season 8-0 and then hosted Williamston and lost, 54-50. The Vikings lost three more home games before losing at Detroit Country Day on Feb. 26. Williamston has won 14 straight after losing to Flint Powers. Haslett’s Makenna Ott suffered a fracture tibia in January but is back. Pick: Haslett by 2.

Big Rapids Crossroads Academy (19-1) vs. McBain Northern Michigan Christian (14-6) at Crossroads Academy, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.: Although Crossroads Academy hasn’t played a demanding schedule, its lone loss was to defending state champion Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, 36-30. And on Feb. 23 it went to Northern Michigan Christian and won, 53-48. Pick: Crossroads Academy by 4.
