STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Blackhawk Christian’s Furst picks Purdue, Crispus Attucks’ McMahon is back on the market

The Boilermakers just made a major splash in mining the Hoosier State for future playmakers.

Ft. Wayne Blackhawk Christian four-star “stretch 4” Caleb Furst lived up to his name this week and became Purdue’s first commit for Matt Painter’s 2021 recruiting class. The 6-foot-8 Furst the best small-school player in Indiana and the top prospect out of the front court.

Blackhawk Christian won the Class A state title last year when Furst was a sophomore. This season, the school moved up to Class 2A and entered the sectionals this week ranked No. 2. in the state, and beat Whitko, 76-52, in their postseason opener. 

Furst is averaging 23 points and 14 boards per game. Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State, Virginia and IU were his top five choices. 

Recruiting notes:

• Indianapolis Crispus Attucks senior guard Sincere McMahon has reopened his recruitment. The slick and savvy 6-1 combo guard, was headed to Western Illinois, but is back on the market after Leathernecks coach Billy Wright was fired earlier this week. McMahon (22 ppg.) is Indianapolis Player of the Year, having led Attucks to the historic program’s first city championship since 1962.

• South Bend Riley four-star junior shooting guard Blake Wesley picked up an offer from Louisville last week.
