STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Burney shouts out a pair of sleeper Indiana Miss Basketball contenders

Hamilton Southeastern All-American candidate Sydney Parrish (Oregon) and the Northwestern dynamic duo of Madison Layden (Purdue) and Kendall Bostic (Michigan) are the clear frontrunners for Indiana’s Miss Basketball this winter. Here are two sleepers in the race to pay attention to with the 2020 season tipping off this week.
Don’t look past this pair of gunners; in other words, overlook at your own risk.
Keegan Sullivan (South Bend St. Joseph G/F) — A total pit bull on the wing, Sullivan is committed to DII Rockhurst and represents maximum value in the recruiting game. Attacks the rim with relentless energy and is the epitome of a finisher at the rim. She defends with ferocity and can create her own shot with ease. If you leave her open, she’s going to stick a jumper or 3-ball in your face. Last season, Sullivan averaged 17 points and eight boards per night.
Nan Garcia (Jeffersonville F) — Everything you want in an inside-out threat on the hardwood. Garcia can light it up from down low or from the perimeter. Her efficiency on the floor is elite, averaging over 50 percent from the field and more than 40 percent from beyond the arc. She netted 20 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior. Just last week, she committed to Penn State, choosing the Nittany Lions over Purdue, Missouri and Miami (Fla.).
