STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Davison QB Brendan Sullivan commits to Northwestern

By: , April 20, 2020, 1:03 pm

A little over a year ago, when Brendan Sullivan was coming off a sophomore season at wide receiver, he had more offers to play college basketball than college football.

After an all-state year at quarterback, when Sullivan led the Cardinals to a Division 1 state title, and all that changed, with his in-box blowing up with offers.

Sullivan decided on his college of choice on Monday, announcing his commitment to Northwestern.

“Man … this has been a crazy ride! If you would’ve asked me a few years ago about being in the position I am today, I would have thought you were crazy. I want to say thank you to all the coaches/universities that have recruited and believed in me throughout the process,” Sullivan posted in a note on Twitter. “To my dad, thank you for being my greatest influence, and always having my back. To my mom, thank you for showing me what true strength is and being my rock.”

Our pick for the football representative on the STATE CHAMPS! All-Junior Team for 2019-20, Sullivan completed 67 percent of his passes, for 3,044 yards — a top-25 total in state history — and 33 touchdowns, running for 406 yards more and another 11 scores.

Sullivan chose Northwestern from among 14 offers, including most of the Mid-American Conference — Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central, Eastern and Western Michigan, Kent State, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo — along with Youngtown State and Indiana.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, the 6-foot-3 Sullivan ranks as the 26th-best player in Michigan, as well as the No. 27 pro-style quarterback in the country.
