He helped lead the Crusaders to a 12-2 record and a Division 3 state title as a sophomore, and an 11-3 record and a D2 runner-up finish as a junior. He had 119 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, eight forced fumbles, one interception and five TDs.

ESPN’s rankings had him as the No. 235 prospect in the Class of 2021, the ninth-best safety in the country, and the No. 7 prospect in Michigan, while 247Sports ranks Reed as the No. 10 safety prospect in the nation, and the No. 7 prospect in Michigan’s Class of 2021. The site’s Crystal Ball predictions feature had Reed leaning toward Penn State before his announcement Thursday evening.

Reed reportedly had 33 offers, including Georgia, USC, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Boston College.

Regionally, Reed had offers from the majority of the Mid-American Conference (Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Toledo and Western Michigan), as well as much of the Big Ten (Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State and Purdue).
