STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Ferris goes on mid-May recruiting binge, hauling in a fearsome foursome

Ferris State’s men’s basketball program went on a recruiting binge in May
Coach Andy Bronkema and the Bulldogs (27-6 in 2020) walked away with an impressive haul consisting of four commits from the in-state ranks in a five-day period. Two will sign and be on campus this fall, while the other two are in the Class of 2021.
Here’s the “New Bulldog” breakdown:
Mykel Bingham (Grand Rapids Catholic Central 6-7 Sr. F) – One of the best players from the state’s west side, Bingham posted 12 points and 10 boards a night on a squad that bagged its fourth straight OK Blue title. A lot of upside with this front-court gem, has pro potential. His big brother Marcus plays at Michigan State.
D.J. Lanier (Dowagiac 6-2 Sr. G) – One of the most underrated playmakers out of the backcourt in the whole state, Lanier is a smooth operator of a combo guard able to score, distribute and quarterback an offense with great aptitude. He averaged 20 points and five assists per game over the last two years. Lightning in a bottle courtesy of K-Zoo.
Ethan Erickson (Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern 6-0 Jr. G) – Just a pure shooter and a dogged competitor. Erickson poured in 20 a game in 2020 and shot more than 50 percent from 3-point distance. Back in January, he caught fire and dropped a 40-bomb with 12 trey balls.
Bennie Crenshaw (Waterford Kettering 5-11 G) – Rugged sparkplug of a point guard. Crenshaw scored 16 points and dished 4 assists per outing last season. This kid is a gym rat and Ferris State is getting very-good value prospect-wise in this pick-up.
Offers of note
River Rouge junior forward Legend Geeter got an Iowa offer and a Missouri offer. It’s his first bid from the Big Ten and the SEC.
Grand Blanc sophomore superstar Ty Rodgers snagged an Ohio State offer. Rodgers is the No. 2 prospect in the state’s stacked ’22 class, right behind Ypsilanti Lincoln phenom Emoni Bates, the most-heralded recruit in the nation.
Grand Rapids Christian junior guard Kobe Bufkin received offers from Missouri and LSU. Bufkin is the No. 1 prospect on the west side of the state for the Class of 2021.
Valparaiso dipped into the Lansing area and offered Dansville guard Carson Voss and Williamston swingman Cade Conley. Valpo is both Voss and Conley’s first DI offer.
Ann Arbor Huron wing guard Julian Lewis is being recruited by the Ivy League and lassoed an offer from Brown.
Tweet of the Week
“Praying for all my friends in Midland right now,” – Grand Blanc freshman guard R.J. Taylor, who grew up in Midland, commenting on the Midland flood emergency.
