STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Great Lakes Football Recruiting Notebook — Rush end from Cincinnati rolls to Wisconsin

By: , September 16, 2019, 2:48 pm

Cincinnati Roger Bacon senior defensive end James Thompson committed to Wisconsin last week, giving the Badgers a true sleeper superstar for their incoming recruiting class. Thompson (6-foot-5, 255 pounds) is the program’s 15th pledge for its Class of 2020. He’s one of the fastest-improving players in the Buckeye State. Hitting the weight room hard over the offseason, he packed on 25 pounds of muscle and refined his pass rushing technique.

Wisconsin was one of only two Power 5 offers Thompson entertained, the other being Iowa State out of the Big 12. His Roger Bacon club is a perfect 3-0 out of the gate in 2019.

Michigan

Belleville sophomore safety Myles Rowser snared a Florida offer last week, another big-time bid for a big-time playmaker. Rowser (6-0, 180 pounds) has over a dozen Power 5 offers already under his belt.

Visits from this past weekend:

• Oak Park senior wide receiver Maliq Carr visited Purdue.

• Grosse Pointe South sophomore cornerback Will Johnson visited Michigan State.

• East Lansing junior wide receiver Andrel Anthony and Warren Mott junior defensive end Tyson Watson both took visits to Notre Dame.

Illinois

Kansas State has entered the recruiting picture for Naperville Central junior wide receiver-quarterback Sam Jackson, throwing an offer at the versatile offensive weapon who is already committed to Minnesota. Jackson is a four-star prospect being sought as a receiver at the next level but playing under center for his prep club this fall.

Providence Catholic junior tight end Jameson Geers visited Wisconsin over the weekend.
