STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Newman, Patterson tagged for future Miss Basketball campaigns in Indiana

North Central’s Meg Newman and Homestead’s Ayanna Patterson are giving the Hoosier State fair warning.

These two playmakers on the hardwood are both wicked on the wing and will be favorites or co-favorites for Indiana’s Miss Basketball award In 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Hamilton Southeastern’s Sydney Parrish is the clear front runner for Miss Basketball 2020. The Royals lady hoopster is the No. 1 shooting guard in the nation. She’s committed to Oregon.

Newman (6-foot-3) showed flashes of nasty in her sophomore campaign last winter, helping lead her North Central squad to the final four. Expect to see that potential blossom into full blown superstardom this winter at the stretch-4 spot. She averaged 10 points and six boards per game in 2019. Her handles are exceptional for her size and she runs the floor like a deer. The pull-up jumper she displayed over the summer on the AAU circuit looked nearly unstoppable.

Indiana, Penn State, Washington State, Minnesota and Vanderbilt offered in the spring. North Carolina, Northwestern, Arizona, Arizona State came in with bids over the summer. Texas Tech and Utah both offered last week.

Patterson is a phenom, one of the best slashing and finishing forwards scouts in the area have seen this decade — just a workhorse and the total package out of the frontcourt. Last winter as a freshman, the long and active Patterson posted 14 points and eight rebounds a game.

South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan, Indiana and Purdue all have offers on the table right now. Indiana offered her in the summer before eighth grade.
