Portage Northern running back Anthony Tyus III committed to Northwestern on Thursday, giving the Wildcats a fourth Michigan member of their 2021 recruiting class.

Tyus made the announcement with a video posted to his Twitter account Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-1, 207-pound back was ranked as a three-star recruit, the No. 20 player in Michigan in the 2021 class and the No. 56 back in the nation by 247Sports. He was the No. 32 player in the STATE CHAMPS! 300 rankings, as well.

He chose the Wildcats from among 13 offers. He narrowed that list down to his top seven on May 9: Central Michigan, Iowa State, Bowling Green, Western Michigan, Northwester and Cincinnati.

“This isn’t just about me. It’s about the Tyus legacy, how I wear this name proud, and am honored to be named after my father. Ever since I’ve been born, it’s been ‘Lights, camera, action.’ I promised myself to do whatever it takes to achieve greatness, and make my family proud,” Tyus said in the video. “The difference between me and you, is that I thrive in pain. I’m OK with being uncomfortable to reach success. There’s three things that have been instilled in me by my family: One — pain is temporary, and if you quit, it will last forever. Two — no excuses, just execution. Three — when you want to success as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful. Don’t worry, this journey is just getting started.”

Northwestern also has 2021 commits from Detroit Country Day offensive tackle Caleb Tiernan, Davison quarterback Brendan Sullivan and Fenton guard Josh Thompson.
