STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Southfield A&T’s Austin goes down Purdue pipeline; Burney predicts more Mitten players B1G-bound

Southfield A&T senior defensive lineman Bryce Austin committed to Purdue late last week, continuing the trend of Boilermakers coach Jeff Brohm building a pipeline into the state of Michigan on the recruiting trail. Oak Park wide receiver Maliq Carr and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep offensive lineman Nalin Fox committed to Purdue earlier in the month.
Austin (6-foot-3, 290 pounds) is versatile and can play tackle or rush end on the D-Line. With his speed, he can also play outside linebacker. Michigan and Michigan State both offered Austin scholarships. So did Penn State and another two dozen or so schools intrigued by the three-star prospect’s potential. He finished the 2019 season with 81 tackles.
