STATE CHAMPS! SCOUT TEAM: Three Indiana junior girls hoopsters on the verge of becoming high major recruits

By: , October 31, 2019, 3:53 pm

Here’s a look at three junior girls basketball players from the state of Indiana on the verge of going from mid-major to high-major in the college recruiting game:

Kaitlyn Costner (Mishawaka Penn) — Maybe the most anticipated impact transfer in Hoosierland for the 2020 campaign, Costner comes over from Elkhart Central where she logged 16 points per game out of the backcourt during her sophomore season. Her efficiency is elite, shooting 60 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc for her career.

Katey Richason (Zionsville) — A firecracker of a forward, Richason registered 14 points and seven boards per night last year and is a total workhorse baseline to baseline. The competitive spirit this hardwood homegirl exhibits on a game-by-game basis is contagious.

Jayla Smith (Lawrence North) — Classic combo guard who averaged 15 points per night, shooting 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point distance in 2019 to take her team into the Class 4A state finals. Smith has a Grade-A motor and top-shelf tenacity on defense.
